Excellent article. I've been lifting weights for 45 years, and thankfully I learned early on about balance: push/pull squat/hinge.

Enjoyable read, even if I'm not a man, this is really insightful and I love when industry myths are busted with simple explanations that even a non-expert can understand. Really great job!

For sure. This info is good for everybody. Women tend to focus a little bit more on the lower posterior chain, but still ignore their back.

I feel called out haha I’ve been working on building leg strength, simply because it’s easier for me. I got an elliptic (and building it was a full-on exercice, physically and for my brain too haha) My arms have always been weak and I block my back easily…

I would look into buying a set of resistance bands that you can connect to your door frame. They’re versatile enough that you’d be able to train your back completely.

Ohhh thanks for the tip, I’d never have thought of that! Really appreciate!

Yes! There’s a difference between athletes and purely gym trainers - though in fairness there are many athletes who are imbalanced too, and functional movement is the most fundamental thing to focus on for actually moving in real life. Great article.

Athletes have some of the worst imbalances, especially when they’re left to train without guidance. Thanks for reading!
