People forget influencers are in the business of making money not necessarily client results. Pushing through comfort has been a focus of mine with reps but also running. People are able to push out more than they think
Josh, great article as always! I think it everything boils down now to survivorship bias from the influencer world that has made people more confused than ever. I'm a big nerd as well of science, but majority of people and kids that you mention on the post don't need to overcomplicate! Just do the basics! Start with the compounds!
You're spot on Craig! It's ok to take away knowledge from content you watch, but you have to always be living through the lens of "How can I apply this to improve on the basics?"
This is MASSIVELY underrated and often taken for granted Going to the gym is all about decisions and commitment. You'll do BETTER when you're conciously aware of how your body feels. Most of the time it will tell you to push it a bit further. Commit to it, and watch the results snowball.

You will never go wrong with the basics. Build your foundation there.
Great points here. This translates to a lot more than just fitness too.
You can’t optimize something that doesn’t have a solid foundation in place. But of course building the solid foundation isn’t flashy enough to sell.

Knowledge without application is a waste.
It absolutely is.
Optimizing sounds like BS to me. Just another fad to suck time and money out of people.
Yep. It’s our mind finding a way to keep putting off what needs to be done.

Yes Yorch! It’s just like everything really. Perform a task so that it matters and creates results.
So what you're saying is the basics actually work? Yeah, this can't be said enough. Nice article!
Thanks Damon! People would be much healthier if they embraced the basics.
Josh,
Good stuff. Enjoyed reading it.
Appreciate it Craig
Simplicity is key. Optimization is good when you are a professional, but for regular folks, it does not help.
It’s the 80/20 rule.
80% of your results will come from 20% of your actions.
You might as work on being great at the basics.
